63, THE PARK BENCH Why are people homeless with no roof over their heads? A few may choose to do so. Others have no choice. They sleep on a park bench or under a tree instead and wish like many others they had a warm bed. We live in the lucky country or so it's said to be makes me ask the question, who or what is young and free? Is it the people or the country that we enjoy? I've pondered over this since I was a boy. For the people living homeless, do they have a choice? The people walking past them, they could be their voice. Politicians, do your job. Go and see these people. Offer them support to get off the street. Who knows what goes on in someone else's head, especially that person who does not have a bed? When you meet another person lying on a park seat, consider offering them a special treat. We live in this country called the lucky land. When you meet a homeless person try offering them your hand. Australia has lots to offer. No-one should be without a home. Living in prosperity, as many do, think one day that homeless person could be you.
